OPPORTUNITIES

Space Systems Engineering Website

The new Space Systems Engineering website (http://spacese.spacegrant.org/), developed by the National Space Grant Foundation, under contract with NASA/JSC, was initiated to disseminate space systems engineering curriculum materials to interested faculty. The materials were developed from NASA processes and piloted at the University of Texas at Austin. They include 27 lecture modules, accompanying assignments and exams, reference handbooks, videos, recommended readings, and other resources. The full systems engineering course was designed as a 3 credit hour prerequisite to the senior-level capstone spacecraft/mission design course.

Interested users can contribute to the website, join the systems engineering forum discussion, or just access the materials at http://spacese.spacegrant.org/

The site is currently featured on the NASA Higher Education website at http://www.nasa.gov/audience/foreducators/postsecondary/

USRA Research Opportunities Program

Looking for new research opportunities? The Universities Space Research Association (USRA) is offering a great way for researchers to connect directly with other researchers at universities, in industry, and at federal centers through its USRA Research Opportunities Program (ROP). USRA Research Institutes, Centers, and Programs are currently located at six NASA centers and a DOE National Laboratory. All have very active research programs and are closely engaged with federal staff and local industry. They also help manage many technical conferences and workshops across a diverse range of space disciplines.

Interested individuals may register at the Research Opportunities Program's website in order to select various research topics about which they are interested. Information about research opportunities will be e-mailed to all individuals who have registered to receive notifications in the specific topic areas.

NASA FIRST Robotics Grants Available

NASA sponsorship grants are available for teams participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Three types of grants are available: Regional Challenge Grants, Program Growth Grants and Sustaining Grants.

These sponsorships are not tied to any particular competition event. The grants will provide $6,000 funding to cover the registration costs for a team to attend one Regional Competition event, along with a kit of parts.

Applications for this grant opportunity are due Nov. 2, 2009.

To learn more about the NASA FIRST Robotics Growth Grants, visit http://frc-grants.arc.nasa.gov/frc/app/directions.php. Questions about this sponsorship should be directed to http://www.worldspaceweek.org/index.html ARC-FRC-Grants@mail.nasa.gov.
