CHALLENGE Topics - Fall 2009

The below listed topics are available for Fall 2009 Design Team selection; however, the total number of team slots will be limited to a maximum of ten teams. To secure consideration for your team's participation, complete and submit the required Design Brief anytime from August 24 - September 7. PROJECTS AVAILABLE THROUGH NASA'S EXPLORATION SYSTEMS MISSION DIRECTORATE and its TSGC Design CHALLENGE Program partnership.

In 2006, ESMD formed a Higher Education Programs partnership with the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program offering Space Grant Consortiums nationwide the opportunity to receive funds in support higher-education design project teams and internships.

Texas Space Grant incorporated the ESMD design projects effort into its existing Design CHALLENGE Program by listing ESMD design project offerings alongside projects offered to the DESIGN CHALLENGE. Although ESMD team projects are seamlessly imbedded into the Design CHALLENGE Program, several distinctions exist:

  1. NASA's Kennedy Space Center administers the ESMD Higher Education Programs in association with TSGC

  2. ESMD project topics are offered at all NASA Centers, including the Johnson Space Center

  3. ESMD teams must be composed entirely of US Citizens

  4. ESMD project participation is limited to available ESMD funding

  5. ESMD design project teams may have opportunities that are not offered to teams participating in non-ESMD sponsored projects that include NASA telecon opportunities; an annual Systems Engineering Paper Competition.
