The Use of the Conservation of Angular Momentum for Controlling the Attitude of an Object in Microgravity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

The purpose of this experiment is to design, build, and test a small battery powered device that uses the conservation of angular momentum to rotate an object from one attitude to another. This will be accomplished by using two perpendicularly mounted masses being rotated at some speed. The rotating masses (flywheels) can rotate about two axes within the device thereby imparting rotation to the body.
