A Study of the Behavior of Cavitation in a Microgravity Environment

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

This experiment will study the behavior of cavitation in a microgravity environment. Cavitation will be induced by passing water from a small pipe through a rapidly diverging diffuser. Based on the continuity equation, the increasing area will lower the pressure below the vapor pressure causing cavitation. The behavior of the cavitation will be photographed using a camcorder during the microgravity sequence of the parabola flown by the KC-135A.
