Blast off at Space Camp. Ages 9-13 are welcome to register. Kids, build and launch model rockets and build and race solar cars, experience an orbital simulator, learn about aerodynamics and GPS systems. The camp is held at Martin Jr. High in Austin, Texas. All campers receive a visit to NASA Space Center in Houston, Model Rocket, Lunches, Snacks, and awards ceremony and a T-shirt. NASA space photography and earth science research gives teachers a wonderful opportunity to teach geography TEKS from a totally different perspective. Using space to teach geography gives students a more global perspective on current issues as well as naturally occurring phenomenon. Teachers will receive several space photos to take back to the classroom, related websites and free NASA materials. If you teach Earth science content in grades 6, 7, or 8, you may want to apply for the Earth Science by Design program, a Teacher Enhancement project funded by the National Science Foundation. Its goal is to help middle school teachers teach so that students understand the "big ideas" in Earth and space science. Design assessments that reveal student understanding of the big Ideas. Use web-based computer visualizations to teach and assess the big Ideas. Program begins with a two-week summer institute August 5-16, 2002, in the Boston area. Teachers will study the big ideas in Earth system science, discover how scientists use satellite images from NASA, NOAA, and USGS To study the Earth system, learn to design effective assessments in Earth science, and learn to use web-based satellite images and computer animations in classroom learning. The Imagine Mars project is a Web-based initiative that provides educators and project leaders with lesson plans, Mars facts and other resources to lead student project teams. This is a great educational tool that's been around a while, but you can still get your class on board at the above website.

Blast off with Sir Isaac Newton and explore his three laws of physics through rocketry activities.
