LiftOff Summer Institute - Return to Mars

LiftOff Summer Institute 2000 is a series of educational/training workshops for middle and high school teachers that emphasizes science, mathematics, and engineering learning experiences by incorporating a different NASA mission area as the central theme each year. Liftoff 2000 will focus on the mysteries of the Red Planet with the scientists and engineers at the forefront of Mars research and exploration. Teacher participants are provided with knowledge, materials, and experience through hands-on activities and field trips that will promote aerospace enrichment activities.

Window on the Universe
Challenger Center for Space Science Education

Window on the Universe engages entire communities in science, math, and technology education using human space flight and the space sciences as the interdisciplinary themes. Window helps you create links between local area school districts; museums, science centers, and planetaria; grade K-13 educators; local area researchers and amateur astronomers; business and civic organizations; and the public at large.

NASA Connect

A series of interactive, 30-minute math and science programs that bring NASA projects, facilities, and researchers into your classroom via technology. For grades 4-5 and 6-8, these free programs link math and science concepts and skills to the workplace. Re-broadcasts of the series can be found on the NASA TV education schedule.

SAGE III Educational Outreach Program

Involve your students in NASA research. The SAGE III project, managed by the NASA Langley Research Center, is developing outreach activities that target grades K-12 and beyond. The main objective is to expose students and teachers to research being conducted on atmospheric species using satellite-based sensors. Students will be given the opportunity to become actively involved by collecting atmospheric data at their locations and submitting it to NASA's database. The activity will continue for several years.

NASA Educational Workshops (NEW)

Selected participants will spend two weeks in the summer at one of NASA's Centers. Travel expenses, housing and meals are included as part of the program. Graduate credit is available. Visit this website to download the application.

NASA Student Involvement Program (NSIP)

The NASA Student Involvement Program (NSIP) is an innovative educational competition providing opportunities for students and their teachers in grades 3-12. It is designed by scientists and educators and supports the National Standards for science, mathematics, technology, and geography. Information about current and future competitions is available on the NSIP website. Check often for winners and details of upcoming events.

Space Foundation Presents Teaching With Space

A unique professional development opportunity awaits K-12 educators in the next millennium. The Space Foundation is sponsoring the Teaching With Space Conference, a Colorado Space Education Initiative (CSEI). The theme of the conference is "The Mastery of Space: Preparing for Your Mission," and will provide interactive training for educators to use across their classroom curricula. From rocketry to Mars colonies, educators will discover how the excitement of space can "Launch Learning Excitement" in their classrooms. The conference takes place January 28, 2000 at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver, Colorado.
