Global Conveyor Belt for HeatHeat and energy is also distributed in the oceans. Fast narrow currents, like the Gulf Stream, carry warm waters from the tropics to the poles and help to moderate coastal climates. Warm waters such as the Gulf stream gradually lose heat and become cold. When waters become cold, they begin to sink and will begin to move back toward the tropics.

This cycle takes about 1000 years from start to finish. This is known as the Global Conveyor Belt.
